Gospel, rap, hip hop, rhythm and blues, jazz and spoken word all feature prominently in Regina Taylors Crowns, opening March 20 at The Weekend Theater in downtown Little Rock. Showdates are March 20, 21, 22, 27, 28, 29, April 3, 4 and 5. Sunday matinees starts at 2:30 p.m. All other shows start at 7:30 p.m.Felicia Richardson and Jamie Scott Blakey co-direct Crowns with music direction by Lori Isner. The musical explores black history and identity by the wearing of hats as seen through the eyes of a young black woman who has moved to the South to stay with her aunt after her brother is killed in Brooklyn. Hats are everywhere, and the characters use the hats to tell stories about everything from the etiquette of hats to their historical and social functions.Tickets cost $22 for adults and $18 for students, seniors and military.
