Middle-aged siblings Vanya and Sonia share a home in Bucks County, PA, where they bicker and complain about the circumstances of their lives. Suddenly, their movie star sister, Masha, swoops in with her hot young boy-toy, Spike, amid threats to sell the house. The cleaning woman Cassandra, who, like her namesake, is prone to making dire prophecies that no one believes, and lovely aspiring actress Nina, whose presence irritates the imperious Masha, are also on board. Throw a little voodoo, and some Beatles music into the mix and you get a very funny, but dramatic play, with a timely message for everyone.
Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike by Christopher Durang won 19 awards in 2013, including a Tony for Best Play.
