Pearland Theatre Guild proudly announces the opening of Fences written by August Wilson and directed by Cheryl D. Loudd on January 31, 2014 and running through February 16, 2014.
Set in 1957, Fences is the heartbreaking story of a man and his last chance at bat.
This Pulitzer Prize-winning drama is the story of Troy Maxon who by all rights should have been an American baseball legend. When his rapid rise through the Negro leagues hit the ceiling of racial prejudice, Troy was forced to let go of his dream for major league success. Now his son has won the attention of college football recruiters – an opportunity to achieve the dream his father could not. Can Troy quiet his own demons enough to support his son or will he strike out once more?
Director Cheryl Loudd states, "I am excited about directing Pearland Theatre Guild's production of "Fences". August Wilson is such a great playwright who has written such gripping work, and "Fences" is no exception. I'm so glad we can expose our Houston/Pearland patrons to Mr. Wilson's work during Black History Month. This is a story about how life experiences can plant seeds early on, and the effects that can be passed down for generations through our loved ones. Our challenge is to learn the lessons through these experiences, both good and bad."
