The PA`I Foundation brings its wonderful and infamous Wearable Arts Show to Kahilu, at the very end of the MAMo or Maoli Arts Month of May 2014.
Native Hawaiian Designers will include: Maile Andrade, Marques Marzan, Wahine Toa, Micah Kamohoalii, and Keone Nunes.
Kumu Hula Vicky Holt Takamine and Robert Cazimero will emcee. The Kahilu tech team will create a thrust special runway over the auditorium seats. The foyer will host lei makers, Hawaiian food and a trunkshow of the designers' "pret a porter" selections.
This popular annual show on O’ahu grew out of a month-long celebration of Native Hawaiian art launched by Vicky Holt Takamine in 2006. Of that inspiration, Takamine says, “We realized that art is not just what we frame and put on a wall. It’s the culture, principles and values that are at the core of who we are, that get transferred to the things that we wear.” Expect to see cutting edge design as well as ‘creative comfort’ with traditional patterns and motifs translated for contemporary styles.
