A beautiful one family house in the suburbs of an American big city. Here lives the young Crystal and the neglected Gary. They have just met each other while moving in. Both had the same idea: why not use the current real estate crisis, move into one of the empty houses and use it as an illegal living space? Now they only need to get along with each other. Gary is extremely suspicious and leaves the house very rarely. Crystal desperately needs money in order to get her life under control.
She works as a car saleswoman and to make a sale she will do anything and use any means she can. In order that the dubious counselor Charlie finally signs off on a sportscar, she even sells herself to him. Crystal’s life is a single bluff. She leads an existance of appearances, without a fixed place to live, without a steady job and without a regular income. But she fights for a new life and for someone named Betty....
Laura Marks’ characters believe they live a life that they no longer have. The fight to survive shown by these middle class fates after the great crash and the bursting of the real estate bubble is touching and comical at the same time.
