Catch a Case of the Giggles with REEFER MADNESS at Art Factory! Hide your children! This October, an evil green menace is set loose on Houston! REEFER MADNESS, the cult-classic satire based on the 1936 documentary of the same name, runs October 6 through 22! Art Factory does its civic duty, utilizing side-splitting comedy and catchy tunes to alert our fair city to the dangers of Public Enemy Number One; Marijuana! You may ask yourself “what’s so dangerous about a seemingly harmless herb?” Do not be fooled! This stealthy enemy is a deviant device used by the Devil to enslave the youth of America for his dastardly deeds. REEFER MADNESS explores reports of insanity, extreme violence, and unexpected pregnancy for all who indulge in the evil giggle-sticks! Though this subject is no laughing matter, the hilarious book and addicting score by Kevin Murphy and Dan Studney will have you laughing, crying, and dancing in your seat! Only recommended for those with strong constitutions, REEFER MADNESS may cause spontaneous fits of laughter, strange sexual sensations, and extreme cases of “the munchies.” As we take our seats in the Benjamin Harrison High School auditorium, our trustworthy Lecturer (Colton Berry) guides us through the frighteningly “true” events of “The Harper Case.” Jimmy Harper (Luke Hamilton), an all-American teenager, is merely trying to woo his doe-eyed sweetheart, Mary Lane (Julia Noble), when the silver-tongued Jack Stone (Allan McFarlane) lures him to 420 Elm Street; The Reefer Den. Soon, Jimmy is firmly in the clutches of its seedy inhabitants: Mae (Laura Hastings Renfroe), Sally (Pari Zangara), and Ralph (Ethan Spell). After a horrifying seduction, Jimmy is thrust into the tumultuous world of the Demon Weed! What happens next is nothing short of terrifying. Violence! Sex! Bloody Murder! REEFER MADNESS is directed and designed by Colton Berry, choreographed and co-directed by Luke Hamilton, music directed by Jane Volke, and stage managed by Rachel Epstein, with dramaturgy by Ashley Frye. Elizabeth Chrisman Shurtz serves as the production’s Assistant Music Director and Ashley Frye is the Assistant Stage Manager. REEFER MADNESS features an ensemble of impeccable Houston talent including Frank Gassmann, Katy McCants, Ryan Perez, Abbi Rodrigue, Elizabeth Chrisman Shurtz, Matthew Shurtz, Jordan Vivian, and Hayden West. Join us at the Factory for a night guaranteed to give you the giggles! REEFER MADNESS runs October 6 through 22, with Friday and Saturday performances at 8:00 p.m. and Sunday performances at 5:00 p.m. Art Factory is located at The Docks, 1125 Providence St., Houston TX 77002.
