Oddfellows Playhouse Junior Repertory Company is staging William Golding’s classic novel Lord of the Flies this month. The production will run March 14 - 17 at Oddfellows Playhouse, located at 128 Washington Street in Middletown. Lord of the Flies is a harrowing tale of the end of innocence and the darkness of man’s heart. Trapped on an isolated island after their plane is shot down while being evacuated from their homes during a global war, a group of young school children face starvation, the elements, and the cruelty of their own minds as they descend further and further into insanity and bloodlust. This production of Lord of the Flies is brought to life by a cast of 15 young actors, ages 7 -14. The production deals with themes of violence, bullying and homicide among a group of children; parental discretion is advised, and the production is not recommended for young children. Directed by Playhouse Artistic Director Dic Wheeler, Lord of the Flies features scenic design by Tina Hurlbert, costume design by Sean Spina, lighting design by Aaron Westcott, sound design by Joseph Getter, properties design by Caleb Warner, and technical direction by Myke Halpin. The dramatic adaptation was written by Phyllis Robinson with additional changes by Wheeler. Performances will be at 7 pm on March 14 - 16, with a 4pm matinee performance on Sunday, March 17. Tickets for Lord of the Flies are $18 for adults and $10 for students. The March 14 performance is a “Pay-What-You-Can”. “Big Heart” tickets for $25 are available for anyone wanting to support Oddfellows’ work with young people, the arts and social justice.
