The Cleveland Orchestra DEBUSSY Jeux (Games), poème dansé DEBUSSY Fantasie for Piano and Orchestra MAHLER Symphony No. 1 (“Titan”) Mahler wrote, “A symphony should be like the world, it should embrace everything,” and his first symphony is just that. From its opening whispers of dawn and birdsong to its grand and glorious finale, Mahler’s symphony is turbulent, passionate, triumphant … and simply exhilarating. The Orchestra is joined by Leif Ove Andsnes, “a pianist of magisterial elegance, power, and insight” (The New York Times), for Debussy’s intoxicating Fantaisie. The composer’s playful Jeux rounds out the program.
Michael Tilson Thomas, conductor
Leif Ove Andsnes, piano
