The Ensemble Español Spanish Dance Theater returns to the North Shore with FLAMENCO PASSION concerts featuring the full company with guest artists and musicians from Spain! Now celebrating their 47th anniversary season, the critically acclaimed concerts will feature company favorites in the Flamenco, Classical and Folkloric Spanish dance styles in both traditional and contemporary genres. The Chicago Tribune hails the company as “pushing Spanish dance into the 21st century.” RENDICION/RENDITION, flamenco contemporary company work by Irma Suarez Ruiz, artistic director, to the music of flamenco pianist, David Dorantes; SUR/SOUTH in the Escuela Bolera-Flamenco contemporary style by Raquel Gomez, former principal of the National Ballet of Spain with music by David Dorantes and percussionist Javier Saume-Mazzei; PASOS LARGOS by La Lupi set to the music of composer and guitarist, Curro de Maria in the Flamenco Caña style; FIN DE FIESTA company premiere work by Isaac Tovar, guest artist in the bulerias flamenco style. This year the festival will feature premiere guest dancers and choreographers; Irene “La Chiqui” Lozano from Malaga and Isaac Tovar from Seville. Musicians include: Curro de Maria, guitarist; Paco Fonta, singer & guitarist; Jose Moreno, percussionist.
