Three generations of women take a Sunday ride. A story about the tension, humor, affection and near-demented discord of families; the journey of mothers and daughters; in-jokes, embarrassment and eyeball rolling; but also the concerns and terrors of living under — and living with someone within — the shadow of encroaching dementia. Award-winning playwright Joseph Reed Hayes has had dozens of productions and readings of his works in Florida, New York, California, and the United Kingdom; he’s also a performance artist and jazz producer, whose Jazz on Edge series encourages the performance of original music. Born in Manhattan, Hayes moved to Asheville in 2023, after a nearly three-decade career as a freelance writer and food critic in Florida. He has been a three-time associate artist-in-residence at the Atlantic Center for the Arts and has been the recipient of state and local arts grants and fellowships. “A Slow Ride” and “Destination Moon” are his first Asheville productions.

Jezebel
Laura Berry makes her Asheville acting debut as matriarch Jezebel. She has been seen on regional theater stages in Detroit and Chicago, most recently at The Blue Moon Dinner Theatre in Johnson City, Tenn. Roles have included Her Ladyship in The Dresser, Professor E.M. Ashford in Wit, and Doris in The Owl and the Pussycat.

Susan
Jen Russ plays Susan, the daughter caught in the middle. Most recently seen in The Vagina Monologues at the Hendersonville Theater, where she also played Annie Clarke in Calendar Girls, Russ has portrayed Blanche DuBois in A Streetcar Named Desire at the Asheville Community Theater, and M'Lynn Eatenton in Steel Magnolias at Parkway Playhouse.
Susan Hudson
Rita
Susan Hudson is the darkly funny Rita. Hudson is majoring in Drama at the University of North Carolina Asheville and has been involved in theatre since a very young age. Her recent credits include Inez in No Exit, Miranda in Rough Magic, and Lennox in Macbeth.

Joseph Reed Hayes, award-winning playwright, producer, director, poster designer, “theater maker” … obviously has trouble delegating jobs to other people. His theater career began as a sound and lighting tech when he was 14 (a looooong time ago), but he didn’t create his first script and first production until 2002. This presentation marks 64 productions and readings of his work from coast to coast and in four countries. He most recently won Best Individual Performance and Best Director awards for his play Mockingbird News at the 2022 Orlando Fringe; and two Best Leading Actor awards in the Orlando Sentinel Best of Theater 2022 for If I Had My Way.
