She’s a one-woman cabal! Launching this year’s Bridge Street Theatre Solofest – a mini- Festival of four original solo shows – is Philadelphia-based performer Miryam Coppersmith’s “Mirele Lernt Zich Yiddish” (Mirele Learns Yiddish). This celebratory semi-improvised dance/theater piece (different stories every show – no two performances the same!) comes to BST’s “Priscilla” Mainstage, located at 44 West Bridge Street in Catskill, for three performances only, March 1-3. With a running time of just over an hour, “Mirele” uses dancing, song, puppetry, and audience interaction as Miryan attempts to reclaim a language that persecution and assimilation squeezed out of Ashkenazi Jewry in the first place. “Mirele” plays Friday and Saturday March 1 and 2 at 7:30pm and Sunday March 3 at 2:00pm. And for those attending the show on March 2, the performance will be followed by an extended Klezmer Dance Party, featuring Margot Leverett (of The Klezmatics and The Klezmer Mountain Boys), Rabbi Zoe B Zak (of Catskill’s Temple Israel) and Robert Bard, to which the entire audience is invited at no extra cost. Come celebrate Women’s History Month and learn a bit more about Yiddish than just schlep and kvetch! Details and ticketing information at bridgest.org/24solofest1/

Our mission is to enhance the cultural life of Catskill and the surrounding areas by presenting, independently and in concert with other artists, unique theatrical productions and other similar events unlike those generally available to audiences at other theaters in the region. To bring to light works we feel have been unjustly neglected, returning them to the stage where they belong. To present, devise, and commission brand-new works for the stage. To forge a diverse community of like-minded artists to aid in the creation of our work. To continue to locate and bring to our patrons the finest in local, national, and international talent. And to keep our ticket prices affordable and our work readily accessible to the widest possible audience.
