Written by Jason Robert Brown, The Last Five Years is an emotionally powerful and intimate musical about two New Yorkers in their twenties who fall in and out of love over the course of five years. The show's unconventional structure consists of Cathy, the woman, telling her story backwards while Jamie, the man, tells his story chronologically; the two characters only meet once, at their wedding in the middle of the show.Director Shawn Cannon describes her vision for this production as a series of music video vignettes. Filmed with stills and effects interspersed, this musical is the best that online theater has to offer, replete with gorgeous music and rich emotion. The cast of two consists of husband/wife duo Joel and Laura Iwaskiewicz, of Epping, NH. Casting a couple was part of the theaters plan to manage COVID-19 risks while singing together, but it turns out Joel and Lauras connection with The Cannon Theatre goes way deeper than just meeting safety requirements. This talented couple met backstage at a Cannon Theatre variety show 10 years ago, marking the launch of both the nascent theater and their relationship. They are thrilled to be back on stage together where it all started.Show dates are April 16, 17, 18, 23, 24, and 25 at 7:30 PM EST.Tickets to this online production are available at www.thecannontheatre.org, and are $20 per individual, $40 per family/household streaming on a single device. The Cannon Theatre is a non-profit community theater currently based in Littleton, MA, performing online-only during the pandemic, and actively seeking a new, larger space for when we can all gather together again. Any donations to help in the big move are greatly appreciated.
