GYPSY, The Ultimate Story about an aggressive stage mother. Join Rose, June and Louise on their trip across the United States in the 1920's when Vaudeville was dying and Burlesque was born.
The story starts in Seattle, with mama Rose pushing her two daughters into Showbiz. She feels June is the real talent, and Louise, the plain quiet one, stands meekly in her sister's shadow. A new act is conceived " Baby June and her Newsboys"and the family heads to L.A., Dallas, Akron, New York and Omaha. Along the way, Rose meets and hires Herbie, a theatrical agent who falls for Rose and becomes a father figure for the girls. The girls grow up on the road and the act later becomes "Dainty June and her Newsboys". Unfortunately quality doesn't improve, bookings are cancelled and the act moves on.
Herbie proposes to Rose but is rejected. June elopes with one of the boys in the act, so Rose plans to make Louise into the star. Rose finally realizes she'll never fulfill her dream of stardom for her girls- because it's a dream of stardom for herself. Vaudeville has died, leaving Burlesque. Louise at last breaks free and goes out on her own as Gypsy Rose Lee, leaving Rose to lament her life of sacrifice and the careers of her unappreciative daughters.
