Jonathan Netek

Jonathan has been enthralled by the stage for as long as he can remember. From children's summer theater camps to seeing his first Broadway show in 1990. He went to college in Albany, NY and got his BFA in Theatrical Costume Design & Construction, working in and around upstate New York and Massachusetts before moving into the larger design world of graphic, digital and UX (user experience). Having lived in Westchester County and NYC for over 20 years, he loves to nourish his love for theater anywhere he can find it, be it local, regional or equity stages across the U.S. He can often be found at any bar's Musical Monday, and has seen over 120 musical theater productions (some of them even two or three times!).

Sister is back again at Stages Houston, instructing one last catechism class before the church Christmas party commences. Originated by Maripat Donovan, who originally played Sister, and a writing partner or two over the years, this uproarious one-woman show is now brilliantly helmed by Denise Fennell, who absolutely sparkles. So take your hands out of your pockets, answer politely and stand up when you’re being called on!

Review: A CHRISTMAS CAROL at Alley Theatre
Review: A CHRISTMAS CAROL at Alley Theatre
November 19, 2024

Now in its third year under the skillful guidance of new (Remounting) Director Amber D. Gray, this Dickens classic has been freshly adapted by Alley Theatre’s Artistic Director Rob Melrose. A CHRISTMAS CAROL tells the story we all know so well: a miserly old man is visited by four ghosts who reveal the impact of his actions on others and the trajectory of his own life, leading him toward redemption. This adaptation stands out by weaving carols into the narrative as a guiding thread. Sung a cappella by the cast, these songs enhance the show’s festive charm. Some are timeless classics, while others feel rooted in the Victorian period, lending authenticity to the setting. The arrangements, rich with harmonies, are beautifully performed by a small group or the entire ensemble.
