"R+J” Romeo and Juliet: An LGBTQ+ take on Shakespeare's Classic Love Story A modern retelling of one of the most iconic love stories in literature, "R+J" is a gay version of Shakespeare's classic play "Romeo and Juliet" premiering in Round Rock February 9th-19th. This innovative production explores the timeless themes of love, family, and sacrifice through the lens of a same-sex romance with both a male on male, and female on female dual cast which hasn't been seen before in theatre. This production was inspired by a member of the theatre’s association who identified as LGBTQ+ and is no longer with us but inspired the idealism to have more representation in theatre of these stories. The first of its kind in Austin, the cast is diverse in terms of gender identity, sexual orientation, race, and uses non-traditional casting. "It's truly inspiring to see love stories represented regardless of gender, and that true love comes through no matter what sex you identify with." -Luxe Cross This production is directed by Luxe Cross, and stars Lou Russell and Becca Wrench as Romeo/Ramona and Taylor Allen/Coltrane Conklin as Juliet/Jason. The play also features a talented ensemble cast, with an original score composed by Victoria Piland. "R+J” will be premiering at the Sam Bass Theatre February 9rd-19th, and will run for 2 weekends of performances. Tickets are on sale now and can be purchased at www.sambasstheatre.org This new take on a beloved classic is not to be missed just in time for Valentine's Day. This production will be nominated for awards. For more information, please contact Taylor Allen, 512-740-2445, managingdirector@sambasstheatre.org
