The Alliance Theatre presents The Chinese Lady, a play by Pulitzer Prize finalist Lloyd Suh, running from September 18 to October 13, 2024. The production delves into the story of Afong Moy, believed to be the first Chinese woman in America, who is brought to the U.S. at age 14 in 1834 and displayed as a living exhibit. The cast features Keiko Agena, known for her role in Gilmore Girls, as Afong Moy, alongside Rex Lee from Fresh Off the Boat as Atung. Directed by Jess McLeod, the play explores themes of identity and cultural understanding as Moy grapples with her role in a foreign land.
