Violinist Grace Park Joins NYYS Orchestra At Carnegie Hall, March 13

Music Director Michael Repper will lead The McCrindle Concert at Carnegie Hall on Sunday, March 13 at 2:00 PM. The all-American performance will include Barber's Violin Concerto, William Grant Still's Symphony No. 1, "Afro-American" and the world premiere of Rauch (And Other Delights) by Jonathan Cziner, the grand prize winner of the First Music Commissioning Program for the 2021/22 season. Violinist Grace Park will make her Stern Auditorium / Perelman Stage at Carnegie Hall debut as part of the Roy and Shirley Durst Debut Artist Series.

Praised by the San Francisco Chronicle as being "fresh, different and exhilarating" and Strings Magazine as "intensely wrought and burnished," violinist Grace Park captivates audiences with her artistry, passion and virtuosity. Winner of the the 2018 Naumburg International Violin Competition, she showcases her artistry as a dynamic soloist and dedicated chamber musician. Ms. Park's upcoming season includes her Carnegie Hall debut recital, a world premiere performance of Mason Bates' first violin sonata, concerto debuts with the Mexico City Philharmonic, Des Moines Symphony, and recitals at Krannert Center, Dame Myra Hess Memorial and Merkin Concert Hall in New York City. Ms. Park has appeared as soloist, recitalist, and chamber musician throughout the United States, Europe, Asia, and Canada at venues such as Walt Disney Hall, The Kennedy Center, The Rudolfinum in Prague, Schubert Club, Metropolitan Museum of Art, among others. A Los Angeles native, Ms. Park attended Colburn Conservatory and New England Conservatory for her Bachelors and Master of Music degrees. Principle teachers are Donald Weilerstein, Miriam Fried, Sylvia Rosenberg, and Robert Lipsett. She now resides in New York City..

Jonathan Cziner (b. 1991) is an American composer whose music combines colorful harmony and texture with nostalgic lyricism, creating a sound-world that ranges from dark and mysterious to vibrant. His music has been praised for its "brilliant timbrel effects and contrasting moments of resonance and delicate filagree" (Theater Jones) and "daring harmonic explorations" (Dallas Morning News). Drawing on a wide variety of inspirations, Jonathan's writing engages the senses and the emotions, fully immersing listeners in the musical experience. A 2018 Charles Ives Scholarship recipient from the American Academy of Arts and Letters, Jonathan's works have been performed throughout the United States by ensembles including the Minnesota Orchestra, New Jersey Symphony Orchestra, Juilliard Orchestra, and New Juilliard Ensemble, and by acclaimed artists including cellist, Julian Schwarz; harpist Emily Levin; violinist, Stella Chen; and pianist, Steven Masi among others. His orchestral work Resonant Bells, was awarded the William Schuman Prize for most outstanding score at the BMI Student Composer Awards as well as the 2018 Palmer Dixon Prize, awarded to the most outstanding work composed at the Juilliard School. Cziner received a Bachelor of Music degree at New York University studying composition with Justin Dello Joio, and completed both his Master of Music and Doctor of Music degrees at The Juilliard School under the tutelage of Robert Beaser. Jonathan lives in Dallas, Texas with his wife Emily Levin, the Principal Harpist of the Dallas Symphony.
