THE CHASE BROCK EXPERIENCE Will Hold 2018 Gala Honoring Denise Roberts Hurlin

Chase Brock, the contemporary choreographer behind the Broadway-bound production Be More Chill and the Artistic Director of Brooklyn-based dance company The Chase Brock Experience, announced today that the company will hold its annual gala following a special performance of The Girl with the Alkaline Eyes on Monday, January 7 at 7:00pm. This year's gala will honor Denise Roberts Hurlin, the Founding Director of Dancers Responding to AIDS (a program of Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS), a member of the CBE Advisory Board, and a former company member of Paul Taylor Dance Company.

Unlike the other performances of The Girl with the Alkaline Eyes, the gala evening will also include a special, additional performance from the company and special guests. In addition, all patrons who purchased the $65 ticket level will be invited to a post-performance reception with the cast.

A special VIP Experience (at $250 per ticket) is available and includes a pre-show toast at 6:15pm, a VIP seat for the performance, an invitation to the post-performance reception with the cast, and a limited-edition gift inspired by the show. The Girl with the Alkaline Eyes is a futuristic A.I. thriller set in a high-tech lab where a young, hot-shot coder has been hard at work on a secret project: an extraordinarily lifelike creation who will change not only the life of his creator, but the lives of everyone around him. With a plot out of a binge-worthy Netflix drama, this unique dance-theater piece will feature performances by The Chase Brock Experience company members.

Set to an original, commissioned score by Eric Dietz, performed live on a double-trio of Piano/Roli Seaboard, violin and cello with pre-recorded electronics (including Siri), The Girl with the Alkaline Eyes will feature scenic design by Drama Desk nominee Jason Sherwood (The View Upstairs), costume design by Drama Desk nominee Loren Shaw (Restoration Comedy), lighting design by Drama Desk nominee Brian Tovar (Tamar of the River), and projection design by Mr. Brock's Be More Chill collaborator Alex Basco Koch.

The Girl with the Alkaline Eyes will play a strictly limited 17-performance engagement at New York City's Theatre Row (410 West 42nd Street, Located between 9th & 10th Avenues) beginning Friday, December 28, 2018. The production is made possible by a commissioning grant from The O'Donnell-Green Music and Dance Foundation and has been developed through a Resident Fellowship at The Center for Ballet and the Arts at NYU.

Denise Roberts Hurlin's career has taken her down diverse paths as a dancer, educator and activist.

She's a founding member of Parsons Dance who also set Mr. Parsons' work on the Purchase Dance Corps and Netherlands Dans Theater. She was a member of the Paul Taylor Dance Company, where she danced the leads in such Taylor classics as Aureole, Big Bertha, Sunset and Company B and was featured in the PBS/WNET Dance in America special Speaking in Tongues. For her work with Taylor, she was named outstanding performer of 1994 by New York dance historian and critic Joan Acocella.
As an educator, Ms.Hurlin has taught at Julliard, LaGuardia High School of the Performing Arts, Keene State College and her alma mater, Purchase College.
As an activist, Ms.Hurlin is the founding director of Dancers Responding to AIDS, a program of Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS. Under her leadership, DRA has produced over 150 events raising millions of dollars to help provide lifesaving medication, healthy meals, emergency assistance and other social services for people living with HIV/AIDS and other critical illnesses across the United States.
She is an inaugural member of the advisory council for The Dancers' Resource, a program of The Actors Fund founded by Bebe Neuwirth,and the newly created Times Square Arts Advisory Committee. Ms.Hurlin received, on behalf of DRA,a Bessie Award Special Citation,the Creative Excellence Award by Jennifer Muller/The Works at its 35th anniversary gala, was a contributor in Danspace Project's 2016 Platform Lost & Found: Dance, New York, HIV/AIDS Then and Now and was presented with the 2017 Martha Hill Dance Fund Mid-Career Award.

Ms.Hurlin is especially proud of her work uniting the dance community with the common cause of providing for the health and well-being of all performing artists from every genre.

She graduated with a BFA in Dance in 1984 from the Conservatory of Dance at Purchase College, where she received the President's Award for Achievement. Ms. Roberts is married to Broadway Cares Production Manager Nathan Hurlin. They are proud parents of Catherine, soloist at American Ballet Theatre, and Henry, a first-year physics major at Rochester Institute of Technology.
