Student Blog: Time to Talk About DIANA: THE MUSICAL!

Wow, time flies by and I am so thankful to be writing on this platform today. Last year looked completely different, I was home in Mexico doing online my Musical Theatre College program and now I am here in Toronto about to start IN PERSON rehearsals at Randolph College for my graduation musical.

Even if things change and look different, it doesn't mean one is better than the other. They are just that: different.

When I was doing my online term, one of my classes was imparted by Bruce Dow, who is one of the best teachers ever. He got to give me feedback on my Musical Theatre performance and gave me tools that I've been using and make my craft and work much more complete.

During the time I was taking classes with him, he had to absence a couple classes because he was just casually flying to NYC to film the Broadway Show he was in, Diana: The Musical. One year later, I was able (last week) to watch it on Netflix as it just recently released and I am just blown away.

Every time I watch a musical, my body is vibrating and my soul is just hypnotized. But to watch one of my mentors doing what he most loves and using the tools he shared with us, for me, is something that words can't explain.

I am super grateful a show like Diana can be on Netflix so everyone has access to this magical Broadway world and get a chance to hear this popular, controversial and worldwide known story of princess Diana from another perspective, not just story wise, but when you get to musically receive a story somehow you connect more with the character which in this case is a real life event. By the way, the songs are amazing, the complexity but at the same time the catchy the songs are, make a smooth storytelling while you have your mouth open.

I was super happy to see that my teacher, mentor and person that I admire creating this magic alongside super talented performers.

The show will be reopening in person on Broadway and Bruce Dow will be part of it and I really hope we all get the chance to experience it live and see how magical stories become when they are in the stage.

Thankfulness is the word that I want to spread in these paragraphs, thankfulness to experience Musical Theatre, thankfulness to have learnt and spend a good number of hours through zoom and stablished a beautiful teacher-student relationship with this amazing performer, and thankfulness to be here in this journey of learning, creating, performing and being in the vibe zone of what I most love.
